This guide will cover the installation procedure of a complete eSite Modular system, including mounting Converter Unit(s) onto the battery cabinet, installing the batteries and RMC controller unit, and connecting the power and communication cables.
System installation must be performed by a minimum of 2 people, one of which is a dedicated Site Commissioner.
The Site Commissioner is responsible for the installation of the eSite Modular system. The Site Commissioner is responsible for use of correct cables to and from the eSite Modular system and applicable MCBs or circuit breakers on the associated systems to prevent damage to the eSite Modular system.
Warning
Do not drill in any equipment delivered from eSite Power Systems without permission from eSite Power Systems.
Install a Converter Unit by following the steps described in this section.
Unpack the Converter Unit by lifting it out of the packing box.
Warning
The Converter Unit must not be lifted by one person alone.
When you lift the Converter Unit out of the packing box, do as follows:
Stand as close to the box as possible.
Make sure you are steady on your feet. Keep a good balance.
Keep your back straight and use your legs and hips to lower yourself down to the box.
Get a firm hold of the Converter Unit with both hands.
Lift slowly by extending your legs with your back straight.
When the Converter Unit is unpacked, place it on a flat surface and remove the bottom cover plate by unscrewing the 3 M5x10mm Torx screws (see figure 1.3).
Mount the Converter Unit onto the battery cabinet by lifting it onto the mounting frame on the side of the cabinet (see figure 4.4). Make sure that the guides on the back of the Converter Unit slide into the designated slots on the mounting frame. Fasten the Converter Unit at the bottom with 2 M8x12 Hex screws.
With the Converter Unit(s) mounted onto the cabinet, it is time to connect all AC and DC power cables. Start by removing the cover plate for the Power Combiner Unit (PCU) and draw the PCU out of the rack until it stops (see figure 4.5).
With the PCU in the drawn-out position, connect the DC power cables from the bottom of the Converter Units (see figure 4.6) to the rear busbar (+) and the dedicated MCB breakers (-) on the upper right hand side of the PCU. Connect the incoming AC power cables to the designated connection points (N, L1, L2, L3, PE) for Source A and, if applicable, Source B at the bottom of the cabinet (see figure 4.6).
In the case of solar power being installed to an RSE or SE Converter Unit, connect the Solar DC power cables to the S1, S2 and S3 connection points on the bottom of the Converter Unit.
Proceed by connecting all DC power cables for the RMC, the battery bank BMUs, the cabinet cooling fans and the customer load (LP and HP breakers) in the same way as for the Converter Units. A standard design of the MCB breaker setup on the PCU is shown in figure 4.7.
Connect any communication signal cables (CAN) between the RMC and available associated systems used on site, according to the schematics in figure 3.2.
Connect the CAN communication cables from the installed Converter Units (CAN1, CAN2, CAN3) and from the battery current LEM sensor (CAN4) on the back of the RMC.
Connect the C9 and C10 screw terminals on the back of the RMC (see figure 4.8).
When all cables on the back side of the RMC are connected, insert the SIM card for remote communication in the SIM card slot on the side of the RMC (see figure 4.9), and slide the RMC into the rack above the PCU.
Connect the C1-C8 screw terminals to the front side of the RMC according to the labels. Connect the antenna cable to the MODEM port on the front side of the RMC (see figure 4.9).
Fasten the RMC to the rack with the M6x16 mm Hex inserts.
Before installing the battery bank, make sure that all cables connected to associated systems going into the cabinet are sorted and drawn through the available cable glands at the bottom of the cabinet (see figure 4.10).
Connect the battery power cables to the BMUs and insert the BMUs into the rack spaces in the cabinet (see figure 4.10). If applicable, connect any internal communication cables (RS485, CAN, etc.) between the BMUs according to the battery manufacturer's instruction. Connect an external communication cable between the BMU labelled 'BMU 1' and the RMC according to the labels.
Attach the PCU cover plate and the bottom cover plate to the Converter Unit(s) (see figure 4.11).
The system installation is now completed. Please proceed to power up the RMC to perform unit registration and Site Commissioning. Copyright © 2022 eSite Power Systems AB
